Dr. Antonio Marttos’ current academic rank is Associate Professor of Surgery, Director of Global e-Health/Trauma Telemedicine, Co-Director of the William Lehman Injury Research Center, Ryder Trauma Center- Jackson Memorial Hospital -University of Miami.

Dr. Marttos completed his Medical (1993) and Surgical Residency training in Brazil in 1997.  He was professor of Emergency Medicine and Trauma Surgeon at ABC Foundation Medical School in Brazil and Chief of Surgery at Santa Marina Hospital in Brazil. In 2004 he joined Jackson Memorial Hospital for Surgical Critical Care and Trauma Fellowship.  At the end of his appointment, in 2006 he joined the University of Miami faculty in the division of Trauma and Critical Care.

Dr. Marttos, a pioneer in Trauma Telemedicine has been involved in numerous studies and clinical activities for the Defense Department, the U.S. Department of State, and the Florida Department of Health.  He created a statewide Trauma Telemedicine Network and received the health department’s Outstanding Leadership Award and also the First Annual State Surgeon General Health Innovation, Prevention, and Management Award for these efforts. 
He is also deeply involved in developing telemedicine solutions to provide expert support in multiple trauma environments, including the Resuscitation and Intensive Care units, the operating room, pre-hospital and mass casualty.

He led the Telemedicine Education and Advice for Military Medicine (TEAMM) project, which linked the Ryder Trauma Center with the U.S. Air Force, and has explored the use of telemedicine in mass casualty exercises with the U.S. Army Forward Surgical Teams, as well as in exercises conducted at multiple hospitals across Florida.

Most recently, Dr. Marttos has created an unparalleled Global Telemedicine program funded by the Department of State to provide trauma telemedicine support services in Iraq. The program has received national attention and is now considered the gold standard for such programs.
Dr. Marttos was involved in the creation of multiple Trauma networks like the one in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the Soccer World Cup and the Olympic Games.

In 2011, Dr. Marttos was named the Brazilian Olympic Committee Team Physician for the 2012 London Olympic Games as well as the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games.  In 2015, Dr. Marttos was named the Emergency Medical Services and Disaster Manager or the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. In early 2019, Dr. Antonio Marttos was elected is the new President-Elect of the Panamerican Trauma Society and will host the 2020 PTS Congress in Brazil.

Dr. Sandro Rizoli MD PhD FRCSC FACS

Dr. Sandro Rizoli received his Doctor of Medicine and completed a General Surgery residency in Brazil. He moved to Canada in 1992 and underwent a second residency in General Surgery at the University of Toronto, followed by fellowships in Trauma and Critical Care, and a PhD under Dr. Ori Rotstein.

In 2002 he joined the University of Toronto and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Rizoli was promoted to Full Professor in 2012. He has over 240 peer-reviewed publications and supervised numerous PhD, MSc, fellows, residents and students.

Dr. Rizoli received two endowed chairs: The De Souza Chair and St. Michael’s & University of Toronto Endowed Chair in Trauma Research. Dr. Rizoli was the President of the Trauma Association of Canada, the Panamerican Trauma Society and Chair of the Region XII (Eastern Canada) of the American College of Surgeons – Committee on Trauma. Dr. Rizoli is the current Medical Director of Trauma at Hamad General Hospital in Doha, Qatar, the Co-Editor of JEMTAC and the Editor-in-Chief of the Panamerican Journal of Trauma.

Dr. Ruben Peralta is the Professor, Senior Consultant and the Director of the HMC Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship Program. He graduated from the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena (UNPHU) in Santo Domingo, DR, with Honors. He trained at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Critical Care Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of several prestigious medical and surgical scientific societies.

Dr. Peralta has extensive experience in the areas of trauma and complex surgery, emergency, disaster medicine and critical care medicine. Dr. Peralta’s specialties include management of highly complex critically ill and injured patients, minimally invasive surgery, general and emergency surgery, disaster medicine, critical care medicine, equal access to healthcare and quality, injury prevention, and minority recruitment into the health professions, cross-cultural medicine and medical education.

Dr. Peralta has authored or coauthored over 300 publications, abstracts and book chapters addressing a broad range of surgical topics. As an Academic Surgeon, Dr. Peralta has been awarded more than US$ 2 million in competitive research grants in Qatar alone. As an educator, he has lead the Trauma, Emergency and Critical Fellowship Program, an advanced medical education and training program of more than 42 physicians in trauma surgery, emergency and critical care medicine in the Middle East region alone. He was inducted into the inaugural class of the prestigious Academy of Master Surgeon Educators, of the American College of Surgeons for his outstanding contributions and internationally recognized leadership in the innovation and advancement of the Surgical Science and Education. He is a professor of surgery, anesthesia, critical care medicine, emergency medicine and global health.
